About New Light Child & Family Institute
New Light Child & Family Institute was founded in 2007 as a 501 (c) (3) Non-Profit Corporation. Licensed with the State of Michigan as a Child Placing and Adoption Agency, NLCFI holds a contract with the State of Michigan Department of Human Services to provide general foster care and adoption services to children and families from many counties within the Mid-Michigan area.
A founding principle of the organization is the concept that foster parents are an integral part of the treatment team. This value informs and encourages a team centered approach that emphasizes communication and collaboration in order to best meet the needs of children throughout the effort to bring them permanency. This philosophy makes NLCFI uniquely different from many other agencies in terms of accessibility of staff at all levels and the commitment to providing optimal service and support to children, foster parents and other members of the treatment team.

New Light Consultants
New Light Consultants, Inc. is a 501 (C)(3) non-profit corporation located in Millington, Michigan. Our primary purpose is to provide mental health and substance abuse treatment services to those that otherwise may not have access to assistance.
NLC was founded in 1998 to provide home-based mental health and substance abuse counseling to individuals and families who had a need or a desire to receive treatment in their home. The founders of NLC realized that outreach services could assist individuals and families to receive treatment by removing the barriers of transportation and conventional business hours, allowing them to receive needed services and improving their quality of life.
On October 7, 2007 NLC earned its accreditation status with the Council on Accreditation. This achievement has since allowed the agency to offer services to a broader range of people.
The period from 2007 to 2010 brought about a time of reassessment and reorganization for NLC. This process ultimately resulted in the expansion of programming, beginning with psychiatric evaluations, and treatment to its consumers. The clinic provides services five days per week. Dr. Linda Hesson fills the role of Site Director, as well as Clinical Director for the organization. She oversees all staff providing Substance Abuse Services and Mental Health Services. With the expanded capacity for counseling services, the organization has focused on becoming paneled providers on a diverse number of insurance panels in order to offer services to a wider base of the population.
